I'm an extremely lucky person: I get to photograph people in love and those they love most! That means engagements, weddings, maternity, kids, and pets. Not too bad, huh?
The majority of my work is weddings. I find it to be extremely challenging- sort of like game day for you football fans or a ballet performance at the Bolshoi. On one day I need to muster all of my physical strength (~8 hours of cameras and equipment, in various poses), mental acuity (anticipating every moment), skill (manipulating available tools and light to achieve my vision), and experience (weddings since 2003 in varying conditions) to create an exceptional artistic product...with an easygoing, calm, smiling exterior. Some people just can't do them; I was made for them! There's fashion, still life, portrait, editorial, event, even food, all rolled into one. Fun!
I joined forces with Ryan Joseph of R. Joseph Photographics in 2004. In September 2008, I started marketing under my own name again: Amy Pezzicara Photography...and then shortened it to Pezz Photo. Prior to photography I was designing museums- all the cool experiences that happen inside them, like creating/prototyping exhibits, researching/writing the signage, doing custom photography...which is how I found out I was good enough to do photography full-time. Before that, I was firmly entrenched in the non-profit world of science museums and science teaching. I still keep one foot in the museum world by volunteering for the Florida Museum of Photographic Arts. I also volunteer for Heart Gallery and Now I Lay Me Down to Sleep. I graduated summa cum laude from Johnson State College in VT with a B.S. in Environmental Science after transferring from American University in D.C. where I'd been studying International Communications.
You can find some examples of my work here and on www.pezzphoto.com; I'd really encourage you to meet with me to see the finished product. For those of you planning destination weddings, we can take care of it all online and through some really great event planners. I am an experienced traveler. Just give me a call and we can discuss your needs.
What I’m Working On… Why do I like it? Negative space at the top draws your eye down to the subject at the bottom- unusual placement adds interest. What do you think?
What I’m Working On: The bride and groom incorporated a lot of vintage “Old Florida” touches in their decor, so I chose a hand-colored effect for this portrait.
I think I actually squealed with delight when the bride, Jessica, showed me her Vivienne Westwood shoes. I just had to pop in to the studio and download the photos (the wedding was yesterday) so I could share!
If you don’t have a wedding planner helping out on the day of your wedding, you may suddenly find the groomsmen wandering, confused and bleeding. Why? The pinning of the boutonniere! Here’s a handy video that makes it oh-so-simple:
Wedding professionals get asked this all the time: “How do you pin a boutonniere?” I can do it, but I always manage to stab myself. Save my fingers: everything you need to know in :55 seconds from Carrie Scribner of www.DutchBloemenWinkel.com in Jackson, NH
February 15, 2010 - 12:36 ammeg@megsimone.com - Thanks so much Amy for featuring the film we made. I was hoping it would get around the web, and it did :) So funny because the wedding I had the following week I got asked "where should i position the boutonniere?" and sure enough I could answer. You do amazing work! Thanks again :) Meg Simone, NH
